The DesignTools.org project web server is physically located on the MAE-WEST backbone at 55 South Market Street, Market Post Tower, San Jose, California, USA. In other words, the server you're talking to is *very* well connected and is sitting in the same datacenter as Google and Ebay. The hosting provider is Simpli Hosting and they do a very good job. I currently using a typical "shared-server" hosting package for the sort term because it is inexpensive. Eventually, I will move from a shared server at $10 USD a month to a colocated server at the same place for ten times the price.
There is actually a good reason for spending ten times as much to get a colocated server. I would much prefer to be in complete control of the project server for security reasons. In a shared-server scenario, any idiot who uses an insecure script on the same physical server the project site is on, can result in full system compromise. Since there will be executables provided by the project, a compromised server could result in the project executables being trojaned. I'd rather not run the risk of you being possibly affected by the security mistakes of the other customers of my hosting provider.
